What are the symptoms of Vertigo

Many times the sensation that the environment around is moving is barely noticed, but at times it may be so severe that it is difficult to maintain balance and complete everyday task. A vertigo attack may happen suddenly and last for seconds or longer. In severe cases, symptoms remain constant and last several days, making your life tough.
Other accompanying symptoms are loss of balance, dizziness and feeling of sickness.
Depending on the causes, additional symptoms include ringing in the ear, high temperature and hearing loss.

What Causes vertigo

Mostly vertigo is caused if there is an issue with the way the balance in the inner ear works. In addition, it can be caused due to problems in parts of the brain.
A few causes include migraines, inner ear infection, Meniere’s disease, vestibular neuritis and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Other less common causes include stroke, brain tumour, multiple sclerosis and acoustic neuroma.

What Is the Treatment for Vertigo

Some of the cases gets better even without treatment. In some cases vertigo improves with time. However, some people experience repeated episodes of vertigo for many months or even years as in Meniere’s disease.

In some cases, specific treatment is given; for example, to treat BPPV, simple head movements is suggested.
Your doctor may prescribe medication in early stages. If symptoms are severe, you need to refer to ENT specialist. Many people have reported being benefited by vestibular rehabilitation training, i.e. a series of exercises to deal with balance problems and dizziness.
