10 Unpleasant Symptoms Of Hormonal Imbalance

Hormones are chemical messengers that are secreted directly into the blood and carried to the specific organ or tissue to perform various function. There are different types of hormones to perform various functions of hormones such as metabolism of food, development and growth of the body, reproductive growth and sexual functioning, cognitive mood and function and maintenance of the body temperature. Hormones are secreted by the endocrine glands that a ductless glands. The major endocrine glands of the body include thyroid, pituitary, pancreas, pineal gland, timer, adrenal gland, testis and ovaries.

Hormonal imbalance happens when hormones are released in too little or too much quantity. In our article, we will learn the unpleasant symptoms of hormonal imbalance. 

Symptoms Of Hormonal Imbalance

#1. Acne

Acne is harmless but aesthetically bothers males and females of any age and especially teenagers. It happens due to the clogging of debris, dirt and oilbeneath the skin surface. It is commonly caused due to the excess of the hormone androgen that affects the development of gonads and stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce sebum.

#2. Hirsutism

Growth of hair on scalp, armpit and genital area is normal. In males due to the dominance of the the hormone androgen dark and coarse hair grows on chest, hands and legs. If a female develops male like pattern hair on chest, back and face the condition is termed as hirsutism. This happens due to excess male hormone androgen in the female body.

#3. Muscular Cramps

Muscle cramps are involuntary and sudden contraction of group of muscles that make you feel intense pain in limbs or other parts of the body making you incapable of moving. The cause behind id mostly injury, overstress or bad posture for a long time. However, deficiency of the hormone insulin also cause muscle cramps.

#4. Dizziness and Fainting

Hormonal imbalance may cause of dizziness and fainting. If you are suffering from type 1 diabetes then due to insufficient level of insulin you may experience dizziness and fainting. Also fainting may be a consequence of low level of adrenaline.

#5. Mind Fog

Mind fog is a neurological and psychological phenomena, that is described as a state of intellectual difficulty and confusion. It is a condition when you do not have sufficient energy and clarity to perform the function properly. It is a common symptom of hypothyroidism where not enough thyroid hormones is produced by the thyroid gland.

#6. Insomnia

A healthy adult sleeps for about 7 to 9 hours. Rest is very important because the it is the time when your body heals itself. If thesleep pattern or sleep cycle is disturbed it has negative consequences on the mind and the body. The mechanism of sleep is controlled by the hormone melatonin produced by the gland epithalamus. Low level of melatonin hormone interferes the sleep cycle and makes it difficult for you to fall asleep. High level of adrenaline hormone and irregulation of thyroid hormone is also associated with disturbed sleep and insomnia.

#7. Dry Skin

The level of oiliness and dryness of the skin is controlled by the sebaceous gland that produces sebum. More the sebaceous gland is active more is the oil production. The sebum protects and keep the skin hydrated. However, hypothyroidism affects the hydration of skin and causes skin dryness.

#8. Hair Loss and Hair Thinning

Too much production of androgen hormone results in male pattern baldness and hair thinning. In addition imbalance of the thyroid hormone causes hair thinning and hair fall.

#9. Weight Gain

Weight gain depends upon calorie intake and physical activity. However, some hormonal imbalances such as hypothyroidism or polycystic ovarian syndrome affects the body metabolic rate and causes weight gain.

#10. Infertility And Disturbed Menstrual Cycle In The Female

The body of male and female contain progesterone oestrogen and androgen hormones. In the male body the level of androgen dominates. In the female, body the level of female hormones oestrogen and progesterone dominates. However, if there is high level of androgen hormone in the female body the menstrual cycle is disturbed and it results into infertility.
