Piles are inflamed hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are clumps or masses of tissue that is filled with blood vessels, muscles and elastic tissues in the rectum. When these masses grew in size and inflames they are called as piles.

  1.  Pregnancy
  2. Constipation and straining while passing stool.
  3. Chronic diarrhea
  4. Heavy weight lifting.
  5. Sitting or standing for a long period of time.
  6. Obesity
  7. A severe cough, sneezing and vomiting.

All above mentioned causes exerts pressure on the lower rectum . As the pressure in lower rectum increases, blood vessels of rectum bulges and develop into hemorrhoids. When these hemorrhoids are inflamed they become piles. Heredity also plays an important role in the development of piles. The risk of developing piles increases with age.

Diagnosis of Pile:

Blood and mucus in stool may be a symptom of the piles. The doctor may ask some questions regarding stool color, current weight and current changes of bowel movements. Digital rectal examination and Proctoscopy may help to detect internal hemorrhoids and piles.

Home Remedies for Piles: 

The piles may resolve on their own. There are medications to relieve symptoms of piles. In case piles get worse surgery is recommended. There are several ointments, creams and medicines like Corticosteroids and painkillers available at pharmaceutical shops to ease the symptoms of piles.

Laxatives are available over the counter to relief constipation. Elastic bands and Sclerotherapy are available to shrink piles. However, slight changes in lifestyle and food habit may reduce the symptoms and can prevent hemorrhoids from getting worse.

  4. Apple cider vinegar to treat piles- Soak a cotton ball with apple cider vinegar and apply it on hemorrhoids or pile. This will give instant relief from pain and itching. Add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to half cup of water and drink it daily. This solution will cure the symptoms of piles including pain and bleeding.

  9. Tea tree oil- Take few drops of tea tree oil and dilute it with other carrier oils like coconut oil or almond oil. Soak a cotton with the dilution and apply it to hemorrhoids. This is a natural remedy to shrink hemorrhoids and treat piles.

  10. Rutin containing foods- Rutin is found in orange, buckwheat, lemon, grapefruit, and cranberries. Include Rutin rich foods to treat piles naturally.

  5. Exercise regularly for at least 30 minutes a day.
