Pregnancy journey is exciting but also a journey where a woman has to face physical, mental and emotional imbalance. There is a fear regarding delivery and labor pain.
But to deliver a healthy baby it is very important for a mother to remain calm and free from anxiety.

A pregnant woman is loaded with lots of advises and tips for a normal delivery. Listen to everyone but it is better to follow only those tips that are given by an expert.
Being a homeopathic doctor and a dietician I deal with lots of pregnant women and guide them to a safe and happy delivery. In this article, I share my part of knowledge I gained from my studies, experience during my practice and my pregnancy journey.

Pregnancy is not a disease. It is a biological phenomenon and our body is naturally prepared for it. There is no need of any kind of medicines except iron and calcium supplements until and unless you are going through pregnancy complications such as gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes etc.

What you need to do during your gestational period is to eat a balanced diet and practice light exercises to keep yourself active and stress-free. Follow the tips given below for normal delivery.

1.Eat well

Eat a diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals. Add fruits, green leafy vegetables, and whole grains. Add pulses and lentils to fulfill the requirement of required proteins. Also, take milk and yogurt. Consume healthy fats Eat small meals at small intervals.

Have at least 5 to 6 balanced meals. It is always better to start your day eating crackers even before you rise form bed to reduce morning sickness. Better avoid raw meat, half cook eggs and fishes with mercury. Avoid pineapples and papaya.

2.Drink lots of Water for Healthy Delivery

Make sure you are drinking at least 3 litres of water. Water dilutes urine and minimizes the chances of infection. It is very important to stay hydrated during pregnancy especially last trimester as dehydration as dehydration may enhance contractions.

3.Things to avoid

Quit smoking and alcohol. Alcohol reached to your baby through the placenta and affects her brain development. Nicotine is also considered harmful for growing baby. Avoid street foods, fatty and spicy food to prevent indigestion and heartburn which is very common during pregnancy.

Avoid caffeinated drinks. Like alcohol caffeinated drinks also crosses the placenta and affects the heart rate of the foetus Better avoid it or it may cause miscarriage or premature baby. Also, caffeine causes nefariousness, irritability, anxiety, and amnesia.

4.Take your Supplements

The supplements that your gynecologist prescribe are for you and your child’s health. So be regular with their intake. Ignoring these supplements may cause malformation of the foetus as well as will hamper your health and will lead to deficiency.

5.Keep Stress at Bay

Stress during the pregnancy affects the foetus development. Try meditation to keep stress at bay. You may also listen to music and cherish your hobbies such as painting and make crafts.

6.Take proper rest

During pregnancy body works hard. Extra calories is needed by pregnant women body for the development of foetus. So you definitely need some extra rest.

7.Exercise

Meet your physiotherapist to learn exercises that improves health, reduces stress and prepares the body for normal delivery. You can join pregnancy exercise classes for it. Exercise in shaded or cool. This will prevent overheating.

Exercise makes you active and promotes foetal health. Pelvic floor exercise and stretching is especially recommended for pregnant women. But it is better to consult your doctor and physiotherapist once before exercising.

Besides the above tips meet your doctor as scheduled and go through the test recommended by your gynecologist. Attend birth classes and also educate yourself about childbirth by reading books and articles on the internet.
