Infections are never fun and when it sets itself deep into womanly organs it becomes a nightmare. Talking in medical terms this condition is known as pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease may be defined as an infection of the reproductive system in females. It occurs due to the transmission of the bacteria that have been sexually transmitted and spreads from the vagina to the uterus, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

A woman suffering from Pelvic inflammatory disease may not exhibit any symptoms and may develop chronic inflammatory disease or trouble in getting pregnant. Mild symptoms exhibited by PID are fever, painful intercourse, pain in the pelvic region or lower abdomen, irregular menstrual discharge and difficult urination.
Symptoms of the Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
The pelvic inflammatory disease may be caused due to bacterial infections such as gonorrhea and chlamydia. These bacteria infect the female vagina following unprotected sex. However intrauterine insertion, miscarriage, abortion, and childbirth may also introduce this bacteria to the female reproductive tract.
Cause of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Sexually active women above 25 years of age are more at the risk of having PID. Other risk factors include having multiple sex partners or having relation with someone who has multiple sexual partners, sex without condom, IUD, Regular douching, history of PID or STD.
To diagnose PID your doctor may conduct pelvic examination and analyze your vaginal discharge, cervical culture, and urine. Other tests that are conducted are ultrasound, endometrial biopsy and laparoscopy.

If pelvic inflammatory disease is left untreated it causes scar tissue and abcess in fallopian tubes. It also damages the reproductive organs and may cause ectopic pregnancy, infertility, and chronic pelvic pain.
Once diagnosed your doctor may prescribe you antibiotics. Also, treatment is prescribed for the partner and sexual intercourse is prohibited for a period of time.
1.Turmeric- Curcumin present in the turmeric makes it a powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Add a teaspoon of turmeric to a glass of water and drink it once before going to the bed every day until your symptoms subside.

2. Garlic- Being antibacterial and anti-inflammatory garlic can be used to treat PID. Increase the intake of garlic. Boil 3 garlic cloves in olive oil until they turn brown. With the help of cotton insert this oil in your vagina and leave it a few hours. This is followed by rinsing it off.
3. Yogurt- Yogurt contains probiotics that fight bacterial infections and restores the good bacteria. Insert a tablespoon of yogurt into your vagina and also add yogurt to your daily diet.

4. Pelvic massage- Massage abdominal muscles and pelvic muscles. This promotes the blood flow. This will provide relaxation, speed up healing and ease the pain.
5. Echinacea- It is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It eases the symptoms and promotes healing. Drink Echinacea tea 2 times for a week. If you are suffering from autoimmune disease better avoid it.

6. Baking soda- Baking soda is alkaline in nature and inhibits the growth of the bacteria. It alkalizes colon and wards off the bacterial infection in the pelvis. Add a half teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water and drink it for a week. Do not prolong this remedy or it may cause diarrhea or vomiting.
Besides the above home remedies for pelvic inflammatory disease also pay attention to your diet. Add carotene and vitamin C rich food in your diet, such as carrots, pumpkin, green leafy vegetables, citrus foods etc.
1. Practice safe sex. Use condoms, Limit the number of your partner and better and before having sex better have information about the sexual history of your partner.
2. Before adopting any contraceptive method consult your doctor.
3. Maintain vaginal hygiene.
4. Do not douche.
5. Consult a doctor before you decide abortion or delivery at home.
