What Causes Morning Sickness

During pregnancy, Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (HCG) hormone is produced by the placenta in high amounts and is considered the main reason behind morning sickness. Other factors considered responsible for morning sickness are a vitamin deficiency, constipation, stress, anxiety, strong odor, low blood glucose level and certain foods.

1.Ginger-

Gingerol present in ginger effectively relieves vomiting and nausea. Chew a piece of ginger or have ginger tea. It will also relieve you from flatulence and other gastric troubles that are common during pregnancy. Make sure not to take ginger tea more than 3 times in a day. Better take it only when you need an instant relief from morning sickness.

2.Peppermint-

Peppermint has calming and soothing effects. Drink peppermint tea or sniff peppermint leaves to relieve your symptoms. To prepare peppermint tea steep a few leaves of peppermint in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. Strain the concoction and drink it warm.

3.Lemon-

Not just lemon water, but sniffing lemon is also effective in alleviating morning sickness. The best part is it is rich in ascorbic acid. Squeeze juice of a lemon and add it to a glass of water. Add honey to taste and drink it every day.

4.Fennel Seeds-

Fennel seeds have anesthetic property. Its aroma has a calming effect. It is totally safe and you can drink fennel tea every day. Crush fennel seeds and steep it in boiling water for 15 minutes. You may add a teaspoon of lemon and a teaspoon of honey to enhance the taste.

5.Bael Fruit-

Have you heard of bael fruit or wood apple. It is a sacred fruit that aids digestion. Also, it prevents constipation, which is a common problem during pregnancy. You may extract its juice and have it daily. You may also add its juice to the cooked rice and have it.

Besides the above home remedies make sure you are eating healthy. Avoid fatty and spicy foods. Add more fruits, vegetables and whole grains to your diet. Do not have big meals. Better have small meals at small intervals. This will prevent heartburn, constipation and stomach upset. Start your day with munching crackers. Do not start your day with liquid.
