When there is an overgrowth of harmful bacteria within vagina, it results in disease and is termed as bacterial vaginosis. It is state of imbalance of vaginal flora.

Bacterial vaginosis is not a sexually transmitted infection, and any women can get it. Some women with low immunity and on certain medicines are more prone to vaginal infections.

Yogurt-

Yogurt is the first choice among all home remedies to treat vaginal infections. Yogurt contains good bacteria; it reduces the level of harmful bacteria and balances vaginal flora. Apply yogurt to the affected part and leave it for a few hours and then wash it off. Repeat it till you find relief. Consume 1-2 cups of yogurt daily.

Garlic-

Garlic is antibacterial. Crush a few garlic cloves and apply the paste to the intimate parts. Leave it overnight and then rinse it off in the morning. Repeat this for a few nights.

Tea tree oil-

Tea tree oil is a well-known antifungal and antibacterial. But before using tea tree essential oil better dilute it with some carrier oil or it will irritate being highly potent. Add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to a teaspoon of coconut oil and apply to the affected part. Repeat this two times in a day for a few days.

* Do any allergic test for tea tree oil before using it as many people are allergic to tea tree oil. In case there is no reaction in 48 hours it is safe to use.

Apple cider vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar is acidic and maintains pH balance that maintains the vaginal flora. Add a two tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to lukewarm water and clean your vagina with this dilution two times in a day for a few days.

Boric acid-

You can use a boric acid capsule that is readily available in the drug stores. Insert a capsule of boric acid in your vagina every night. Do this for two weeks to treat vaginal infection.

Boric acid capsules are toxic when consumed orally. Keep out of the reach of children and animals.

Precautions to Prevent Bacterial Vaginosis or Vaginal Infection

Avoid douching-

It’s a myth that douching cleans your intimate part. The truth is your vagina itself releases lubricants that keep it clean. Douching removes the good bacteria and disbalances the natural vaginal flora. So do not douche.

Wear cotton underclothes-

The underwear made of a material that cannot breathe traps moisture and makes the environment suitable for the bacteria and fungi to grow. Better wear loose cotton undergarments that ensure proper circulation of air and keeps your intimate area dry.

Practice safe sex-

exposing your vagina to different sexual partners will only increase the risk of getting infected. Make sure with a new intimate partner always use a condom for protection.

Practice good hygiene-

If you don’t keep your intimate parts clean, you will invite harmful bacteria to grow there. Wash your private parts with an intimate wash and warm water. Also after pooping makes sure to wipe from front to back or contaminated stool may have access to vaginal opening and lead to infection. Even meet your doctor if bacterial vaginosis is recurrent.
