The vagina is a sensitive organ of the female body. It occurs after menopause and is characterized by thinning of the vaginal walls due to a decreased level of estrogen. It leads to vaginal infection, and intercourse becomes painful.

Bartholin gland is present on either side of the vaginal opening. When bacteria infect the gland, it swells up, gets blocked, and the cyst is formed. The Bartholin abscess causes pain on walking, sitting and during intercourse.
Vaginitis is a term used to define inflammation of the vagina. It may be caused due to bacterial or yeast infection. Vaginitis leads to vaginal pain, itching, burning and discharge.
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease with early symptoms of a pain in the vagina while urinating and discharge.
Other causes of vaginal pain include herpes, urinary tract infection, vaginal boil or pimples, vulvodynia, cervical cancer and endometriosis.
Common treatment for vaginal dryness is topical estrogen therapy. Other ways you can naturally lubricate your vagina are using coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil. Increasing intake of foods rich in omega3 fatty acids such as flaxseeds, tuna, raw pumpkin or sesame seeds. Keep yourself hydrated.
Avoid using harsh perfumed soaps and other cosmetics, Consume phytoestrogen-rich foods such as flaxseeds and cherries. You may also take capsules of evening primrose oil after consulting your doctor.
Your doctor may prescribe oral or topical estrogen therapy depending on your health condition. To reduce pain and vaginal dryness try the home remedies for vaginal dryness discussed above. Also, bring changes in your lifestyle. Wear loose cotton clothing for proper air circulation. Stay sexually active promote blood circulation and stimulate body’s natural moisture. Use vitamin E oil for lubrication. Take vitamin D rich food such as dairy products or sunbath. A brisk walk every day for 30 minutes will also make a remarkable difference as exercising promotes the blood flow and balances the level of hormone.
To treat vaginitis doctor will prescribe you antibiotics and antifungal creams depending upon the causative microbe. Home remedies for vaginitis are coconut oil, yoghurt, garlic paste and apple cider vinegar to be applied to your intimate parts. Maintain hygiene, avoid wearing wet and tight clothing, Refrain yourself from using perfused harsh soaps and avoid douching. If you are birth control pills better consult your doctor and look for other ways of contraception.
Cervicitis treatment depends on the causative microorganism. Non-infectious cervicitis can be treated by cryosurgery, laser therapy or cauterization. Potential home remedies to treat cervicitis are marigold, carrots, chamomile tea and cowslip infusion.
