While she sucks your blood, simultaneously she pumps in her saliva in your bloodstream. This saliva of the mosquito works as an anticoagulant, preventing your blood from clotting at the site of the bite. This helps the mosquito in quickly feed your blood. The saliva contains certain enzymes and proteins; they cause allergic reactions in your body. In response to these allergens, your immune system release histamines which cause itching. Help yourself by restraining itching, because the more you itch, the more histamine is released. This will start a vicious cycle of scratching and itching and add to your discomfort.

Baking soda also known as sodium bicarbonate may also provide relief from itching because of a mosquito bite. It is readily available in your kitchen cabinet and benefits your skin immensely. Baking soda is alkaline in nature; it helps in balancing the pH levels of your skin. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with water to make a paste. Apply this paste on the mosquito bite and let it rest for 10 – 15 minutes. Wash it with cold water.
If you experience any irritation, immediately remove the paste.

Oatmeal Home Remedy for  Mosquito Bites

Oatmeal can help in relieving itching and swelling. Make a paste by mixing oatmeal and water; apply this on the mosquito site. Keep it for 10 minutes and wash the area with cold water.
