Home Remedies For Flatulence

What is Flatulence

Passing gas is natural but doesn’t sound good in public. We all pass wind or fart occasionally,and in medical terms, this phenomenon is called flatulence. Flatulence is the passing of gas from the digestive system through back passage.

Almost every body passes wind a few time in a day, but it becomes a matter of concern and embarrassment when the frequency of farting increases, the sound is irritably high, or it smells bad forcing everyone to hold their breath. Refraining yourself from passing out the wind is not a solution. Better look out for the cause and try to minimize the production of gas in your body. There are home remedies for flatulence, but before acknowledging them lets first learn the causes of flatulence.

Indigestion, Swallowing excess air while eating or drinking, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome cause excessive flatulence. Certain foods causing flatulence are kidney beans, dairy, radish, legumes, carrots, cabbage and onion.

1.Ginger-

Ginger promotes digestion and eliminates accumulated gas in the digestive tract. It also eases the pain in the abdomen and has a laxative effect. Steep a few slices of ginger in a cup of steaming water for 15 minutes. Strain and drink ginger tea warm.

2.Activated Charcoal-

It is one of the best home remedies for flatulence. Activated charcoal absorbs the excess of gas. It is a porous nature. The porous property allows water and air to pass through the holes. These spaces trap excess gas produced in the intestines. Capsules or powdered activated charcoal are available at pharmacy stores. Charcoal will not be digested by your system and will leave the system without being absorbed. For mild flatulence, one capsule per day is enough. Still, see your doctor for the recommended doses. Also, drink a lot of water.

3.Caraway Seeds-

Caraway seeds provides instant relief from stomach flatulence. It is rich in compound carvene and carvol. Both the chemicals soothe the muscles of the digestive tract and help in the expulsion of gas. Caraway seeds are anti-spasmodic, antimicrobial and carminative.

Chew a pinch of caraway seeds 3-4 times in a day or drink caraway seed tea. Prepare caraway seed tea by steeping a teaspoon of caraway seed in boiling water for 15 minutes.

4.Fennel seeds-

Fennel seeds have carminative property and expels gas from the intestinal tract. It relieves intestinal spasms, improves digestion and treats bloating issues. Fennel seeds also eliminate fat from the intestines. Chew a pinch of fennel seeds after meals

5.Garlic-

Garlic is anti-inflammatory and treats flatulence. Chew a few garlic cloves and also add garlic to cooking.

6.Peppermint-

Peppermint soothes inflammation and treats the problem of gas. It reduces bloating and cramping. Menthol is the compound present in peppermint that soothes muscles, relieves gas, bloating, cramps and intestinal spasms. Drink peppermint tea eats two times a day.

7.Baking Soda-

Baking soda is bicarbonate and re-alkalizes the stomach. It neutralizes the acid and passes out the wind. Mix one-fourth teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water and drink it.

8. Probiotics-

Probiotics are rich in gut bacteria that promote digestion. Incorporate yoghurt, tempeh and kefir into your diet.

9.Turmeric-

Turmeric is rich in antioxidants. Add turmeric to foods while cooking to clear of flatulence.

10.Apple cider Vinegar-

Apple cider vinegar neutralizes stomach acid. Add a tablespoon apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink half an hour before meals.
