Irregular changes in the voice are called hoarseness. When a hoarse, the voice may be in the sound breathy, raspy, and strained or show changes in the volume or pitch. Voice change is related to disorders in the sound-producing parts of the voice box. While breathing, the spoken folds remains an apart and while speaking or singing, they come together and as air leaves the lungs, producing the sounds they vibrate. Swelling or lumps on the vocal folds are hinder vibration that altering the voice quality, volume and pitch.
All age group people can develop Hoarse Voice which is a common problem from time to time. To misuse of vocal cords, some common causes of a hoarse voice are laryngitis, gastro esophageal reflux disease, allergies, drinking excessive amounts of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, smoking, inhaling respiratory tract irritants by living in an extremely dry place and persistent coughing. In addition the other less common causes are polyps on the vocal cords, throat cancer, internal damage thyroid problems, to the throat, and nerve conditions that weaken the voice box muscles.
