What Causes Bad Breath

Bad breath is also known as halitosis and is a result of poor dental hygiene. But halitosis may also be a sign of some underlying health issue. Whatever food we eat is broken down by the bacteria present in our mouth. The food particles that remain in between our teeth are broken down by the bacteria that are present in our mouth to release sulfur that causes halitosis. Those who fast also develops bad breath due to infrequent eating. Dry mouth causes decreases of saliva and causes bad breath.
Halitosis is one of the commonest dental issues that persuades you to approach your dentist. To prevent bad breath, it is advised to brush your teeth two times a day and floss daily. But believe me, both brushing and flossing are not enough. For a complete cleaning of your mouth also you need mouthwash.

There is much mouthwash available in the market. Most of them contain alcohol and mint and they make your mouth dry. Also, they contain artificial sweeteners and thus cannot be considered as a healthy option. It is better if you use a homemade mouthwash that can be prepared easily at home with a few natural ingredients.

Natural Homemade Mouthwashes

1. Salt Mouth Washes

If you are suffering from tooth ache you are advised to rinse your mouth with salt water. Salt water creates an alkaline atmosphere and makes it difficult for the bacteria to thrive. This relieves soreness of gums and toothache, Use of health mouthwash prevents teeth infection.

To make a salt mouthwash you need to add a teaspoon to a glass of warm water. Rinse your mouth with it 2 times in a day.

2. Clove Mouth Washes

Since ages clove have been used to treat dental issues. It is antibacterial, antiseptic and a natural analgesic.
Take few cloves and crush them to make a powder. Add a tablespoon of clove powder and add it to a cup of steaming water. Steep for 5 minutes, strain it and rinse your mouth with it when its temperature is bearable.

3. Baking Soda Mouth Wash

Baking soda has natural cleansing properties. It removes food residues.
To a cup of lukewarm water add 4 teaspoon baking soda and 4 drops of tea tree oil. Mix it well and rinse your mouth with it 2 times in a day.

* Swallowing this solution may have adverse effect so better avoid its ingestion.

4. Coconut Oil Mouth Wash

Coconut oil is antibacterial. It kills odor causing bacteria and improves oral health. Coconut mouthwash prevents cavities and freshens your breath.
Add 2 teaspoon coconut oil to 4 tablespoon water. Add a drop of peppermint oil and one pinch salt to it. Mix the ingredients and rinse your mouth with it 2 times in a day.

5. Cinnamon Mouth Wash

Cinnamon is antibacterial and will help you to get rid of bad breath. Crush a few cinnamon bark to make a powder. To a cup of boiling water add a tablespoon of cinnamon powder add 2 teaspoons of lemon juice. Wait till the mixture cools down to bearable temperature and then rinse your mouth with it.

Rinse your mouth with any of the above-mentioned mouthwashes two times in a day. These homemade mouthwashes will not only keep bad breath away but also treat other oral problems.
