Home Remedies for Stye on Upper Eyelid
A stye is an infection of sebaceous glands. The causative agent behind it is Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria. In medical term, this condition is called as Hordeolum. It is characterized by a red painful bump on the eyelid. With time this bump is filled with pus and eventually heals.
What is Stye
There are oil glands present in the eyelids. When dirt, dead skin cells clog them the bacteria starts growing. This results in inflammation and causes a stye.
Common causes of a stye are hormonal changes, poor hygiene, poor diet, and stress.
Stye appears as a lump on bottom or top of an eye. It causes burning, swelling of eyelids, pain, tenderness, itching, blurred vision, increased light sensitivity and difficulty in blinking eye. Also, therer may be mucus discharge from the affected eye.
Symptoms of Stye
Usually, a stye gets treated in a week or so on its own but with the help of certain home remedies, you can fasten the healing. Below is the list of home remedies to treat a stye.
Warm compress is one of the most effective treatments of a stye. Heat promotes blood circulation. This speeds the healing process and drainage of the pus. Take a bowl of hot water. Soak a cotton ball in it and strain excess of water. Place it on your closed eyelids and leave it for a few minutes. Repeat this several times in a day.

Tumeric is antiseptic. It has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Add 2 teaspoon of turmeric to a cup of hot water. Stir well. Now soak a cotton ball in this solution. Strain it and place it on stye. Repeat this for a few days. You should also add a teaspoon of turmeric powder and add it to a glass of milk and drink it for a week.

Green tea contains tannin which is a natural antioxidant. It has anti-inflammatory compounds and reduces pain and inflammation. Steep a green tea bag in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes. Now keep the tea bag in the freezer for half hour. Place the chilled tea on affected eyelids. Repeat this 3 times in a day.

Are you aware of healing properties of guava. It is anti-inflammatory and minimizes the swelling and redness. Wash a few guava leaves with hot water. Now take a cloth and soak it in hot water. Wring Excess of water. Wrap guava leaves with this cloth and let it cool. Now take the leaves and place it on the affected part. Repeat this for a few minutes. Do this 2 times in a day until stye is healed.

Ricinoleic acid present in castor oil acts as an anti-inflammatory and relieves pain and inflammation. Wash your affected eye with warm water. This is followed by a warm compress. Now take a cotton swab, soak it with castor oil and apply castor oil to the stye. Repeat this 2 times in a day.

Aloe vera has soothing properties. Also, it is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It reduces swelling, redness, and inflammation. Take a fresh leaf of aloe vera. Cut the leaf and extract its gel. Apply the gel on the affected area and leave it for 15 minutes. This is followed by rinsing of the affected area with warm water. Repeat this 3-4 times in a day for a few days.
