Each pore carries a hair follicle and a sebaceous gland. These sebaceous glands are known to produce sebum which is commonly called oil. Sebaceous glands are more in number on your face, chest, groin, and back.Stimulation of these glands is controlled by certain hormones.

Open pores do not pose any medical concern but they may impose cosmetic issue for some. They appear as small pits on the face and make your face look dull and aged. Likewise, when dirt accumulates in them these pores they can lead to blackheads and whiteheads.
