Though appendix most commonly appears between 10 to 30 years of age but it might occur at different ages as well. Here are some of the most common symptoms of appendix:

1)Acute Stomach Pain

The most common symptom of appendicitis is acute stomach pain which normally begins near the belly button. As it worsens, then the pain shifts to the lower side of the abdomen. The pain worsens if you move, cough or sneeze and the severity of the pain increases within the matter of hours.

2)Loss of appetite

You might not feel the urge to eat as you will not feel hungry at all. You tend to lose your appetite and it gets worse with time. You may not eat well and this might lead to severe weight loss as well.

3)Nausea or vomiting

As soon as your abdominal pain begins, you might get the feeling of nausea or vomiting. The pain is so severe that you might feel like throwing out due to lot of uneasiness in your abdomen.

4) Fever and chills

You might suffer from 100 to 103 degree fever and sever pain in your stomach. This is a sign of appendicitis. Check with your doctor immediately in this case to get treated on time.

5)Constipation or Diarrhea

Apart from severe pain in the abdominal area you might suffer from diarrhea or acute constipation with the inability to even pass the gas trapped in your stomach. In case of diarrhea, there might be lot of mucus in it. See your doctor immediately in that case.

What Causes Appendicitis?

There are many reason of appendicitis but as per the doctors any obstruction in the appendix causes appendicitis which can be either treated by medicines or surgery. There are other reasons of appendix as well:

  • Worms
  • Trauma
  • Tumors
  • Enlarged Lymphoid Follicles

When there is any kind of obstruction in the appendix then this causes the bacteria to multiply inside the body. This leads to the formation of the pus and thus the pressure becomes painful. When appendix ruptures then all the fecal matter fills the abdomen and this should be treated immediately as this might cause death of a person.

Diagnosis of Appendix

Doctors do certain test to look for the condition of appendix like tenderness of the abdomen, stomach becomes hard and swells as well. Urianlysis is done to rule out any urinary tract infection. Pelvic exams are taken out to see that women does not have any reproductive or pelvic infections. Chest X-ray is done to rule out right lower lobe pneumonia.

Castor oil

Castor oil helps in preventing the blockage and also reduces the inflammation. It should be taken orally to prevent inflammation and improves the bowel movements. Take 2 tbsp of castor oil and pour it on a large flannel cloth. Now put this cloth on your stomach for few days. Repeat this process for 3 times in a week. You will get relief from pain within 2 to 3 months.

Ginger

Ginger is anti-inflammatory so it helps in reducing the abdominal pain and reduces pain as well. Take 1 tsp of grated ginger and put them in a cup of boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Strain the water and drink it twice in a day to get relief from pain. You can also massage your lower abdomen area with ginger oil for few minutes to get relief from the pain.

Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds prevents the accumulation of internal waste and mucus and also helps in reducing the possibility of severe pain. They also helps in reducing pain when you take 2 tsp of fenugreek seeds and add them in a cup of water. Now boil this water on low heat for 10 minutes and then strain this mixture. If someone suffers from mild fever during appendicitis then it can be cured by using basil. Boil handful of basil leaves with 1 tsp grated ginger in a cup of water. When this mixture reduces to half then add little honey to it. Strain this mixture and then drink this tea twice in a day for few days to get relief from the pain.

Make mint tea by adding 1 tbsp fresh mint leaves in a cup of boiling water. Let them steep for 5-10 minutes and also add some honey to it. Strain this mixture and then drink this tea 2-3 times in a day for few days. You can also chew mint leaves to combat nausea and vomiting.
